The Young Society of Artists Incorporated (YSA) was formed in 1982 to encourage creativity, support artists and foster an appreciation of art within the community.
More than four decades later, YSA continues to bring artists and art lovers together, creating opportunities to paint, exhibit, share ideas and connect with a wider creative community across Young and the Hilltops.
A place to create and connect
Young Society of Artists is based within the Southern Cross Cinema and Arts Complex in Young, a community arts facility operated by the volunteers of Hilltops Arts. Here, YSA members have a place to come together, paint, exchange ideas and enjoy the company of other creative people. The Society welcomes artists with different styles, interests and levels of experience. Working alongside others provides opportunities to learn, experiment, collaborate and build confidence while being part of a supportive artistic community. For YSA, art is not only about the finished work — it is also about the friendships, conversations and connections that happen while creating

Burrangong Gallery
YSA’s regular exhibition space is Burrangong Gallery, located within the Young Visitor Information Centre at the historic Old Railway Station, behind Anderson Park in Lovell Street, Young. Open seven days a week, Burrangong Gallery gives local residents and visitors an accessible place to discover the work of artists from Young and beyond. YSA presents a new exhibition at the gallery each month, with the community invited to celebrate each new collection at an opening morning tea. These changing exhibitions provide artists with regular opportunities to share their work while ensuring there is always something new for visitors to discover. Annual Exhibitions
Alongside its monthly Burrangong Gallery program, Young Society of Artists presents and participates in major exhibitions and arts events throughout the year.
The Society’s longstanding highlights are the Lambing Flat Sculpture Wood and Big Art Exhibition and the Cherry Festival Competitive Art Exhibition, presented as part of Young’s National Cherry Festival.
YSA is also a key organiser of the Hilltops Off The Beaten Track Arts & Cultural Trail, helping showcase creativity and connect artists with audiences from across the region.
Through these exhibitions and events, artists have opportunities to present their work to new audiences while art becomes part of some of the Hilltops region’s major community and cultural celebrations.
connecting Across the Hilltops
YSA believes creativity is strengthened through collaboration.
The Society works alongside artists, arts organisations and community groups to encourage creative opportunities throughout Young and the wider Hilltops region.
These connections help artists discover one another, share knowledge and ideas, participate in regional initiatives and build a stronger creative community together.
While Young is our home, collaboration across the Hilltops is an important part of our future.
